Hi Adam. There are so many types of EFAs on the market that it is confusing knowing which one to choose. I heard at the DAN conference many references to use Cod Liver Oil specifically. Right now, I’m giving my child an EFA Complete. Is there a major difference between an oil labeled specifically as Cod Liver vs. one labeled as an EFA, even if they are from the same company? Thanks!
Melissa

Hi Missy,
Generally it is good to use a formula like Nordic Naturals Pro EFA. It has a relatively balanced ratio of EPA to DHA, and also contains other beneficial essential fats.
Cod Liver Oil also has a relatively balanced ratio of EPA to DHA, but does not contain the other beneficial essential fats, and DOES contain Vitamins A & D. In some cases you may not want the extra A & D in Cod Liver Oil. For example, if you are already getting high amounts of A & D from other supplements.
Pro DHA contains much higher amounts of DHA than EPA.
Pro EPA contains much higher amounts of EPA than DHA.
Pro DHA and Pro EPA are specialized formulas and probably best to use specifically if recommended by a physician.
DHA has the most positive effects on brain health and development, while EPA is more for heart health. Though both have many other beneficial effects.
