What is Intra-Cell?
Intra-Cell is a special blend of Ginkgo, Milk Thistle, and Green Tea, bound to Phytosomes. This particular blend was chosen for 2 main reasons.
1) All three active ingredients have been shown in numerous studies to potently increase intracellular levels of Glutathione. This means that the level of Glutathione inside the cells of the body was greatly increased. Glutathione is most effective when inside the cell, but it is often difficult to increase levels of Glutathione inside the cell.
2) In doing the research necessary to create Intra-Cell, we poured through hundreds of studies and collected data on all of the various types of inflammatory cytokines that have been proven to be elevated in people with Autism.
Cytokines are a group of proteins and peptides that are used in organisms as signaling compounds. These chemical signals are similar to hormones and neurotransmitters and are used to allow one cell to communicate with another. Inflammatory cytokines are produced predominantly by activated immune cells such as microglia and are involved in the amplification of inflammatory reactions. They also can lead to high amounts of oxidative stress and depletion of Glutathione.
In Autism, there is a high prevalence of elevated inflammatory cytokines. The blend of ingredients in Intra-Cell was selected because each ingredient in the formula has been shown in independent studies to reduce one or several of the inflammatory cytokines that has been found to be elevated in Autism. The combination of Ginkgo, Milk Thistle, and Green Tea, provides protection from all of the inflammatory cytokines that have been found to be elevated in Autism.
What are Phytosomes?
Phytosomes are advanced forms of herbal products that are better absorbed, utilized, and as a result produce better results than conventional herbal extracts. Phytosomes are produced via a patented process whereby the individual components of an herbal extract are bound to phosphatidylcholine - an emulsifying compound derived from soy. Phosphatidylcholine is also one of the chief components of the membranes in our cells.
How does a "Phytosome" differ from a "Liposome?"
A liposome is formed by mixing a water-soluble substance with phosphatidylcholine. No chemical bond is formed. Instead, the phosphatidylcholine molecules collectively surround the water-soluble substance. There may be hundreds or even thousands of phosphatidylcholine molecules surrounding the water-soluble compound. In contrast, with the Phytosome process the phosphatidylcholine and the individual plant components actually from a 1:1 or a 2:1 complex depending on the substance. This difference results in Phytosomes being much better absorbed that liposomes.
But, my child already takes Milk Thistle.
Numerous studies have shown that Milk Thistle is almost completely unabsorbed from the gastrointestinal track. This means that the Milk Thistle that your child is taking is not likely to be having much effect.
Binding the Milk Thistle to Phytosomes, allows for the active ingredients in the plant to be absorbed by the body. A study that was done comparing the absorption of Milk Thistle Phytosomes to regular Milk Thistle extract found that while the regular extract was completely unabsorbed, the Milk Thistle Phytosomes were absorbed in highly significant amounts.
How does better absorption relate to better results?
The effectiveness of any herbal product (or medication) is dependent upon delivering an effective level of the active compounds. For milk thistle, this means delivering an effective level of silybin, for Ginkgo biloba extract it is the flavonoids and the terpenes; and for green tea it is epigallocatechin 3-O- gallate. It only makes sense that if you can increase the absorption and utilization of these components that you will see better results. And, that is exactly what has been shown in several studies with various Phytosomes.
