Beta Glucan is a plant based compound derived from the cell wall of the Sacchromyces ceravisiae organism. It is recognized as a long chain polysaccharide molecule consisting of highly purified glucose. It is different than regular glucose in that it is made up of many glucose molecules linked together in a long branched chain with a specific chemical arrangement in the first and third glucose positions. The frequency and nature of the side chains have been shown to be very important for the biological activity of different beta glucans.

It is the above chemical structure that separates Kirkman's Beta-1,3/1,6-Glucan from many other beta glucans. It is this form of glucan which possesses active and significant immune supporting functions.
