Frequently asked questions
Who is it for?
NeuroNeeds describes active-folate support, including for neurodivergent people. Discuss individual suitability with your healthcare provider.
Is FolinicNeeds a prescription medicine?
No. FolinicNeeds is sold as a dietary supplement, not a prescription medicine. Folinic acid is also called leucovorin, but this product is not a replacement for prescribed treatment.
Why eight ingredients?
The label lists two folate forms, B12, magnesium, zinc, L-theanine, 5-HTP and K2. NeuroNeeds includes the minerals, theanine and 5-HTP for calming support.* High folate intake can mask B12 deficiency; methylated B12 is included.
How much should I take?
The manufacturer's suggested serving is one chewable wafer daily.
Can my child take more?
Ask your licensed healthcare provider before increasing the suggested serving.
Is it approved for autism?
No. FDA approval of prescription Wellcovorin in March 2026 covers cerebral folate transport deficiency in adults and children with a confirmed FOLR1 gene variant, not autism generally or FolinicNeeds. Clinicians may prescribe approved medicines off-label; this does not make that use FDA-approved.
How long does a bottle last?
The label lists 60 wafers and 60 servings: 60 days at one wafer daily.
What is the shelf life?
NeuroNeeds specifies two years. Manufacture date and lot number appear on the bottle bottom.
How is the formula different?
Unlike a single-ingredient folinic-acid product, this formula combines calcium folinate and L-methylfolate with six additional active ingredients in a berry chewable. It contains no synthetic folic acid.
What about tolerability?
The manufacturer notes possible excitability, irritability or sleep difficulty. Magnesium and zinc can cause digestive upset; taking with food may help. 5-HTP can cause gastrointestinal symptoms, drowsiness or vivid dreams. Combining it with antidepressants, especially MAOIs, can raise concern for serotonin syndrome and requires physician supervision. Also discuss blood-pressure-lowering medication with your physician before use because of the theanine content.
Can I combine it with other NeuroNeeds products?
Dr. Boles' manufacturer FAQ discusses SpectrumNeeds powder or EnergyNeeds capsules, QNeeds ubiquinol and OmegaNeeds alongside FolinicNeeds. Review overlapping ingredients and total intake with your healthcare provider.
Are bundles available?
This listing is for one bottle containing 60 chewable wafers.
What if chewing is difficult?
The manufacturer allows cutting, crushing or crumbling the wafer into food or drink.
What about an aftertaste?
NeuroNeeds suggests food or a drink afterward.
Can it be used with a feeding tube?
NeuroNeeds describes mixing crushed wafers into formula or pureed food. Confirm suitability and preparation with the person's feeding team.
Why does the FAQ mention genetic testing?
Dr. Boles recommends clinician-led genetic evaluation for complex functional or neurodevelopmental conditions to investigate causes and guide individualized care.
